ABC6 Columbus: Father who lost son to overdose fights for bill to reform drug sentencing laws

Jenkins testified Wednesday in front of the Ohio Senate Judiciary Committee in support of a bill that would help drug addicts get out of jail and get help. Under Senate Bill 3, instead of incarceration, Ohioans charged with possession of certain drugs would be provided addiction treatment.

"We've got to start distinguishing between people who are sick and people who are dangerous. And sick people shouldn't go to prison, that just exacerbates their problem,” said Holly Harris, Justice Action Network President.

The bill would also reclassify some low-level drug offenses from felonies to misdemeanors.
