Indy Star: Coronavirus catastrophe feared in Indiana's jails and prisons, some call for bold steps

…Across the country, similar calls for action have targeted local officials, governors, and President Trump. In a letter to the president Tuesday, advocates urged him to “extend compassionate release in federal prisons to elderly people and those with serious health conditions who are exceptionally vulnerable to coronavirus.”

“It is crital that we not forget the millions of people working and detained in jails, prisons and detention centers,” wrote The Sentencing Project, American Civil Liberties Union, Due Process Institute, FreedomWorks, Justice Action Network, Justice Roundtable, The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, R Street, and We Got Us Now.
