Louisville Courier-Journal: Gov. Beshear commutes sentences of additional 352 state inmates in response to COVID-19

Holly Harris, executive director of the national criminal justice reform group Justice Action Network, praised Beshear’s new round of commutations, saying “he’s one of the top five governors in the country” in terms of his response to COVID-19 in prisons.

A former Republican Party of Kentucky official, Harris said Beshear’s response ranks high, along with Republican governors in Ohio and Oklahoma and Democratic governors in Washington and Pennsylvania.

"The empathy that he shows during his press conferences — and his admission that they're not moving fast enough, especially with respect to Green River — I feel like he really does understand the desperate situation these people are in and he's doing everything he can to address a life and death situation," Harris said.
