Statement from Justice Action Network Federal Director Inimai Chettiar on the Introduction of the Kenneth P. Thompson Begin Again Act:
“This is a great day for the bipartisan movement to reduce collateral consequences and we applaud Congressmen Hakeem Jeffries and Van Taylor for reaching across the aisle to deliver for the American people. The Kenneth P. Thompson Begin Again Act will help people turn their lives around without the persistent burden of a criminal record and the more than 44,600 collateral consequences that can come with it. Across the country, from Pennsylvania to Mississippi to New Mexico, states have adopted second chance reforms, and have shown that reducing the burden of collateral consequences can help people get back to work, reduce recidivism, and make our communities safer. Justice Action Network is proud to be part of a robust bipartisan coalition supporting this much-needed reform.”
