The Crime Report: Surprise Trump Super Bowl Ad Features Criminal Justice

The ad says “politicians talk about criminal justice reform. President Trump got it done. Thousands of families are being reunited.” The campaign said former President Barack Obama “did not intervene in Johnson’s case during his eight years in office, despite three requests.” Trump commuted the sentence for Johnson in June 2018. Six months later, he signed the First Step Act, which is aimed at providing thousands of prison inmates with a second chance. Holly Harris of the Justice Action Network said, “Regardless of your opinion of the President, this message on the world’s greatest media platform signifies that criminal justice reform is an issue now fully embraced by Republicans and Democrats.”
